Application Procedure

  1. Applicant will simultaneously apply to
  • Delaware State University Graduate School
  • Delaware State University Bridge to the Doctorate (BTD) Program
  1. Applicant must send the BTD application and a copy of DSU application for Graduate School to

  1. The application Deadline July 18, 2009.  Please apply early.  Admissions are competitive and will be on rolling basis.
  2. The applicant will be notified by email that application was received by the BTD.
  3. If applicant is accepted into Delaware State University Graduate School.  The graduate department will send the applicant a letter of acceptance.
  4. The applicants’ application will then be submitted to the BTD Selection Committee for review.
  5. If selected, the Director of Delaware State University/Philadelphia LSAMP Bridge to the Doctorate Program will send the applicant a letter of acceptance for the Bridge to the Doctorate Program and the Memorandum of Understanding.
  6. The applicant will return the Memorandum of Understanding, a copy of the departmental letter of acceptance, and an intent to enroll statement to the Director of BTD Program, Dr. Mazen Shahin, at the above address.
  7. The following documents must be submitted:

Delaware State University Application Submission Requirements:

  • Completed Application for Delaware State University Graduate School
  • Paid Application Fee
  • Official Transcript
  • GRE scores from ETS to be sent to Delaware State University Graduate Admissions Office
  • Essay
  • Three Letters of Reference

Bridge to the Doctorate Program (BTD) Application Submission Requirements:

  • Completed and Signed Application for the Bridge to the Doctorate Program
  • Letters of Reference from LSAMP Director at the undergraduate institution and at least one faculty member from your field or research experience. These could be used in your admissions application
  • Copy of Official Transcript
  • Student copy of GRE Scores
  • Resume
  • Personnel statement describing your career goals, motivation for pursuing a STEM Ph.D., and information that will help the reviewers get to know and understand who you are (2 page maximum)
  • Statement of research experience and/or interest
  • Copy of Permanent Residence Card, if applicable
